Spell Check is So Twentieth Century: Using Editing Software to Improve Your Writing

June 14 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Editing software can be a useful tool—not only for editing a particular manuscript, but for

improving your writing and self-editing chops for the future. This workshop will first give an

overview of the uses and limitations of currently available editing technology. Then, using

participants’ previously submitted writing samples, it will demonstrate the benefits of some of

the most popular programs on the market.

Bio:

amandaA self-professed grammar nerd, Amanda Sumner studied English and linguistics at Cornell and

received a bachelor’s degree in those subjects from the University of Manchester in the UK.

After college, she worked as an editorial assistant at W.W. Norton and Company and as an

assistant editor at The Ecco Press (now an imprint of HarperCollins). Linguistics still called to

her, however, so she worked as a linguist at a text-to-speech software development company.

Since 1996, she has done freelance writing and editing for newspapers, magazines, publishers,

and authors. She now focuses on copyediting genre fiction, especially romance. You can find her

on the web at CarefulCopyediting.com.
